Lidcombe Program

The Lidcombe Program is an efficient, well researched, evidence-based program for treating pre-school stuttering. Using Lidcombe, parents learn to respond constructively to their children's speech to teach them how to speak without stuttering. Links to Language

Links to Language is authored by Marion Blank, Ph.D., Laura McKirdy, Ph.D., CCC/SLP, & Pamela Payne, M.S., CCC/SLP, for children with language impairment, such as autism, pervasive developmental disorder, aphasia, cognitive impairment. Links is a highly structured and sequenced program that provides children with the prerequisites for learning language. This program also provides a receptive and expressive language acquisition protocol.

Children learn pre-verbal skills that are designed to increase focused and sustained attention, memory, sequencing, and the chunking of information.

Receptively: helps to improve following directions skills, comprehension of basic concepts and answering questions. Receptive language skills include recognition activities, following from simple to complex directions, and answering fourteen different types of question forms.

Expressively: Expand sentence length through imitation through imitation with the use of small toys displayed in various vignettes. Expressive language activities are comprised of imitating vignettes of increased length and complexity, all of which are demonstrated with small toy objects. Parent training and participation with the child in a home program are key to the success of this program.

Floor Time

Floor Time is a program developed by Stanley I. Greenspan, M.D. and Serena Wider, Ph.D. that teaches Floor Time play strategies for different types of children and families with special needs. It was specifically developed for autistic children.

Stuttering Programs

Programmed Therapy for Stuttering in Children and Adults (Ryan, 1974). This program is an operant conditioning progrqam which seeks to establish fluent speech by eliminating stutttering in a controlled environment (10 to 20 hours). The fluent response is reinforced (positively and /or negatively) and the stuttering behavior is discouraged. Once fluent speech has been established in the treatment room transfer to various settings, audiences is instituted (5 to 10 hours). COMPERTOWN- Compertown Program (PC) is a behavioral program for adults who stutter. Lessac-Based Resonant Voice Treatment. Received training in Lessac-Bassed Resonant voice from Katherine Verdolini, Ph.D., CCC-SLP.
